What to Expect

The weekly staple of our life together as a congregation is our Sunday worship service. A service typically lasts about 75 minutes and includes hymns, songs of praise, responsive readings, prayers, Scripture readings, a sermon, and Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper).

Where do you meet?

We worship in the sanctuary of Weis Church in Fairview (6020 Heidler Rd). The parking lot and sanctuary are handicap-accessible.

What do you mean that your service is “liturgical”?

Liturgy (Greek leitourgia, “public work” or “service for the people”) refers to a structured, formal, and often traditional form of Christian public worship that follows a set order of prayers, readings, rituals, and symbolic actions. In comparison to some churches where the focus is a speaker or a band on a stage, our service is more participatory (“for the people”).

Many people who visit Redeemer find liturgical worship to be peaceful, participatory, and active. We sit and stand together; we recite Scripture and prayers responsively (back-and-forth); we sing hymns from the Trinity Hymnal; we read from different parts of the Bible every Sunday (Old Testament, Psalms, Gospels, New Testament); we celebrate the Lord’s Supper together.

What should I wear?

Most adults dress “business casual,” but with allowance for the season/weather. Some men wear jackets and ties; others wear jeans or khakis with polo shirts. Women wear skirts, slacks or jeans. Whatever you wear, we’re happy you’re here with us.

What about kids?

We welcome children’s participation in Sunday worship services; many of our families enjoy having their children stay with them during the service. For nursing moms or kids that just need to move around, we also have a nursery room with one-way audio so parents can listen in on the service. On the second and fourth Sundays of the month, children ages 5–11 are dismissed for children’s church during the sermon.

What about Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper)?

At Redeemer, we celebrate Communion (also called the Lord’s Supper, the Lord’s Table or the Eucharist) each week. We welcome all baptized Christians—those who are trusting in Jesus Christ for salvation and who are members of congregations that proclaim the gospel—to receive Communion with us.

If this does not currently describe you, we invite you to participate in spirit but not body, by taking time during Communion to consider the things you have seen and heard in worship, including God’s love for sinners as portrayed in this meal. Children should be of an understanding age before partaking in Communion, but are welcome and encouraged to observe and learn about God’s love conveyed to us in this ritual.

If you have any questions about whether you should participate in the Lord’s Supper please talk with our pastor or one of the elders.

At Redeemer, we use gluten-free, dairy-free crackers and grape juice (individual cups) in our celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
